DISTRICT DEVELOPMENT COORDINATION COMMITTEE (DDCC) QUARTERLY MEETING HIGHLIGHTS – 2025 FIRST QUARTER

The District Development Coordination Committee (DDCC) held its first quarterly meeting for 2025 on Tuesday, 3rd June, at St. Lawrence Catholic Conference Hall. The meeting brought together government departments, stakeholders, to review progress on development projects aligned with the 2025 eight national development plan.

Key Highlights

1.Economic Transformation and Job Creation

Forestry & Conservation: The Forestry Department and Bio carb on Partners (BCP) presented the Kafue Zambezi Community Forest Project (KZCFP), aimed at conserving forest catchments and wildlife corridors across 16 districts of Western province. Objectives include improving livelihoods, food security, and land tenure rights.

2.Environment Sustainability

Livestock & Fisheries; efforts to promote sustainable cooperatives and economic transformation were highlighted, alongside challenges like limited resources for business grants.

  1. Good Governance Environment: Progress was reported on policy reforms, audit committees, and decentralized functions to enhance local governance.
  2. Human and Social Development: Human & Social Development: Updates on the completed, in progress and all projects set to start in the district, construction of classroom blocks, maternity wing and water reticulation.
  3. Agribusiness and Marketing: Agri-Business: Farmers supported by partnerships like JICA under the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP).

In closing the meeting, Barotse Royal Establishment pledged collaboration with local authority and the Government at large to address land and development issues. District Commissioner, emphasized the need to collaborate and tackle challenges, reinforcing the commitment to collective progress for a developed and thriving district.
